telephone numbers

Telephone numbers should be written in the following format

+XX YY ZZ ZZZ ZZ

Where (+XX) is the country code, (YY) the area code, and (ZZ ZZZ ZZ) the rest of the numbers.

The area code for Geneva is 22 and all CERN telephones start with 76. So most CERN numbers will be in the format

+41 22 76 ZZZ ZZ

CERN internal phone numbers are all five-digit numbers, all reachable directly from CERN.

Examples:

  • Central telephone exchange:       +41 22 76 761 11
  • Reception desk:                         +41 22 76 765 55
  • Visits reception desk:                 +41 22 76 784 84

CERN mobile phone numbers are of the form +41 75 411 xx xx.

To call a CERN mobile from outside CERN, dial as if you were calling the Swiss number (+41) 75 411, and the last 4 digits of the mobile number.

Example:

To call the mobile number 161234 from the US, dial 00 41 75 411 1234.

Note the emergency line at CERN is 74444
